الكنائس لتهدئة خواطر الموتى..
سأجعل جميع أسلحة الدمار الشامل آلات موسيقية نادرة..
والثكنات أماكن هادئة لممارسة فن اليوغا.
أدحض حجج المحاربين القدامي.
وأعيد جميع القتلى موسمين الى
دار الأوبرا..
لو كنت الاها لغيرت أشياء كثيرة
في العالم..
تحويل القنابل الى فواكه جافة.
والمدرعات الى غزالات أليفة..
والطائرات الى فراشات جذلى..
والسفن الحربية الى ملجإ آمن للغرقى..
لو كنت الاها لكشفت عن وجهي
آخر كل شهر..
لتنام زيزان الفلاسفة في مرتفعات الأسئلة .
ويكف المتصوفة عن الدوران العبثي..
لو كنت الاها لسجنت الموت في معتقل نازي.
وطردت القبار وعربات نقل الجثث
وألغيت طقوس الحداد .

I’ll send angels like a fireman
To trim the sun's nails.
And to cut off its hanging tongue over the tank houses.
I will make all soldiers honorable poets
And leaders, great musicians who frequent
Churches to calm down the thoughts of the dead.
I will turn all weapons of mass destruction into rare musical instruments
And the barracks into quiet places to practice the art of yoga.
I will refute the arguments of the veterans
And all the war dead I’ll bring, as medal holders, to the
Opera House...
If I were a god, I would have changed many things
In the world...
Turn bombs into dry fruits.
And armored vehicles into tamed gazelles.
And planes into gleeful butterfly.
If I were a god, I would have revealed my face
The end of each month...
To let philosophers’ cicadas, fall asleep in the heights of questions.
And the Sufis to cease their absurd spin.
If I were God, I would have imprisoned death in a Nazi camp,
And would have expelled grave digger and corpses,
And would have canceled mourning rituals.
