The little boy woke up late, so he hurried to school. He was astonished when he found a red lunch box in his bag. There was a paper with these words:
- Be careful on the road. I wish you a pleasant appetite. Never take off your mask until you return. Check the Arabic language book which contains your daily allowance!
The school day ended early. Once he returned home happily, he asked about his father. His mother said he was in a house on the outskirts of the village. He rushed to that place like lightning. He stood stunned for a few moments thinking with tearful eyes about the sight that had astonished him:
His father whose back was broken knelt down suffering under the weight of need enduring what no human being could bear in a position that had never struck him.
The son asked himself:
“How can you bear all this, Father?”
Minutes passed, heavy on his heart. He was speechless for few moments staring at the construction worker who was stepping on a wooden plank trampling on his father’s back. He remembered his children’s demands, needs, and wishes that had forced him to endure hardships in order to please them. As soon as his father saw him, he shouted in excitement:
- Why are you here?!
The boy ran home preoccupied with thoughts while that image stuck in his imagination!

دَينٌ ثقيلٌ
استيقظ الولد متأخرًا؛ فسابق الريح إلى مدرسته، دهش عندما عثر على صندوق الطعام أحمر اللون في حقيبته، ووجد بجواره ورقة كُتب عليها:
- انتبه لنفسك في الطريق، وتناول طعامك بالهناء والشفاء، وإياك أن تخلع الكمامة حتى ترجع، تفحص كتاب اللغة العربية؛ فبداخله مصروفك اليومي!
انتهى اليوم الدراسي مبكرًا؛ فرجع إلى البيت فرحًا، سأل عن والده، قالت أمه إنه في منزل على أطراف القرية، فوصل إلى المكان كالبرق الخاطف، وقف ذاهلًا للحظات، يفكر بعين دامعة في المنظر الذي أدهشه:
انحنى والده الذي انقصم ظهره راكعًا، يرزح تحت وطأة الحاجة، يتحمل ما لا يحتمله بشر في وضعية لم تخطر بباله يومًا.
تساءل الابن:
"كيف تتحمل كل هذا يا أبت؟ "
مرت الدقائق ثقيلة على قلبه؛ ففقد النطق للحظات، أخذ يحدق في عامل البناء الذي يدوس بقدمه على لوح خشبيّ يدهس ظهر والده، تذكر المطالب والحاجات والأماني التي أجبرته على تحمل المشاق من أجل تلبيتها، وما إن رآه حتى صاح منفعلًا:
- ماذا جاء بك إلى هنا؟!
هرع الولد إلى البيت تتصارع الأفكار في رأسه، لا تفارق تلك الصورة مخيلته!
